Constitutional Amendment Project
There are two ways to amend the Constitution.
Congress proposes an amendment.
Both houses of Congress approve by two-thirds votes a resolution calling for the amendment. The resolution does not require the president's signature. To become effective, the proposed amendment must then be "ratified" or approved by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states. Congress typically places a time limit of seven years for ratification by the states.
The states call for a constitutional convention.
The legislatures of two-thirds of the states vote to call for a convention at which constitutional amendments can be proposed. Amendments proposed by the convention would again require ratification by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states.
We recommend the second route be taken. No one has ever done this, and so we are "making history" and "making history" by doing this.
How can you participate?
- Visit our group pages, forums and blogs, and surveys, and spread the word to friends and family. Draw people into the debate. Ask them what they want to create for themselves and the entire world.
- Watch for our "tent tour" to come to your state. If your area is having a specific problem, we will explain to you how the international government will help you solve the issue. We will gather people to initiate the process in your state. Our progress can be tracked in the right side bar links under "tent tour."
- Take our online classes through On The Rainbow Peace Store and work to create the life you want. Demonstrate it is possible to create the life you want, and draw in your friends and family by doing so. Start with the Conflict Resolution brochures and the catalogs. Send out Social Conscience Cards and draw people into your own project. Everyone has a project, based on talents and gifts. You are fulfilling your purpose in life by creating your own project.
